Let's Examine The Covers

Ladies and gents, it time for Let's Examine The Covers

This week's cover is going to be Frankie Beverly & Maze's soul single "Joy and Pain", which came out in 1989.

Versus

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZyJ7NSjJ24

German acid jazz band Count Basic's version of the song, which came out in 1996.

Let's start off with our original version, which contains more vocals and is light funky song, with minimal instrumentals, but more vocals. Personally I like both equally, they're both great songs, but are two. But I lean more towards the original version, because of its originality, creativity and simplicty. Count Basic's versions sounds to busy, with a full jazz guitar going, drums, and sparkly sounds that are typical of smooth jazz songs. Maze's is simple, but charming in a sense. My consensus is the original version on this one.

I think i'mma make a

separate blog for the San Andreas stuff....

Episode 2: Hungry

I'll (try!!) to do 4 episodes per day! If not, then as soon as possible! =D

Welcome to San Andreas, Carl Johnson.

First Movie Review: "The Room" (2003)

Heh, I've had this post on draft for so long, and now I'm just starting to put the finishing touches on it. I'll basically say I think of the film, and then I'll compare my rating versus Rotten Tomatoes or some other site.
(WARNING SPOILER AHEAD)

This movie is basically about a man, his cheating fiancee, and his best friend in a typical love triangle. Well I've just got to say I actually enjoyed watching this film. At times tho, it was pretty unbearable, but for the most part, it's hilarious. I actually think the acting is intentionally bad for a comedic effect, but the world may never know. It's considered a drama, but in my eyes, it's both, a "dramedy" of sorts. When I watched the movie at first, I noticed that the audio is actually dubbed, interestingly enough. It made them look funny when they talked because it didn't seem to sync, and I was right all along. There are other characters in the film, which seem to have little to no purpose, whatsoever. The plot is a little loopy, one mention of something will never pop up in the film again, or something just won't add up. I was also pretty disappointed at how the film ended, which lowered my overall score. It's hilarious, to me anyway. And there ya have it folks. My apologies for not making it longer, but there's not much more to say! Thanks for reading.

"I'm fed up with this world!"

My Rating: 3.4 / 5.0
Rotten Tomatoes: Critics 31% Audience: 48%
Reccomended? Yes

Introducing Snowflake!

Excuse me while I upload some cell phone videos of my cat! Shes 5 years old and her breed is supposedly a cross between Turkish van and Siamese. This is back when she had a nasty hot spot so we had to get her a neck brace so she wouldn't scratch it. Funny thing is, when we took it off when it healed, she made another hot spot! So we took her to the vet to get some medication and its been gone ever since :)

:3 I'm proud of this picture I took of her!

Arrrrggggghhhhhhhhh another week of work!

Good afternoon fellow bloggers!

I'm sorry for slackin on the movie reviews but I'm definitely gonna watch some movies today and write up some reviews as it looks like gonna be a very quiet day at work. Thanks for reading!

Top 5 Daft Punk tracks

I've been a big fan of Daft Punk, ever since I first heard their song "One More Time", back in '02. I heard it alot but never figured out their name until a few years later. Then I ordered their CD (back when I had my old Sony CD walkman) and when I finally got my own computer I downloaded of all their work, although I'm not particularly fond of their latest album Human After All which seemed very repetitive and rushed. On this list I'm going to examine each track.

1. "One More Time" from Discovery
Well this is the track that I loved from the very start. The vocals are slightly distorted with auto-tune which is makes it sound very cool. Of course like all Daft Punk songs it can be pretty repetitive but the beat is bouncy to not mind it very much.
2. "Revolution 909" from Homework
An instrumental track, the beat is nothing short of awesome. The intro to the song is basically the police trying to break up a rave. The rest of the song has a very nice groovy bassline along with some fine 808 programming. The only vocals in the song is the sound of a crowd chanting "Daft Punk yo" for the majority of the track.
3. "Harder Better Faster Stronger" from Discovery
A signature Daft Punk song, it would be almost a crime for me to leave this off the list. the song features a prominent drum & percussion beat, along with distorted vocals supplied by the men themselves. Towards the end of the song it gets a little slower, but still danceable nonetheless.
4. "High Fidelity" from Homework
Another instrumental track, which sounds like it samples Paul McCartney & Billy Joel recordings (I think), the song carries a powerful bass beat, and the song gets simpler as it goes along.
5. "Musique" B-side from Da Funk single
Musique is the perfect song for a video game, in my opinion. It was the b-side to the original "Da Funk" single, but I prefer this song over "Da Funk" for sure.

Movie reviews

Definately gonna be reviewing some movies tommorow, since I'm off from work! I'll be watching Scent of A Woman, which will be a slight departure from my usual action/crime film taste. Then I'm gonna review Die Hard and a couple others! Gonna break out the popcorn and look through my library tonight and decide a film for tonight. Stay tuned folks!

Approaching 11...

And then one more hour of work. No boats going out or coming in, on a sunday? Very odd. Maybe because it was really cloudy and not windy. Gotta listen to some new music. If anyone out there has got some nice new music to share with me drop me a line in the comment box, I have a very open ear. Btw, I've got a last.fm account (http://last.fm/user/MrDasilva69) that tracks what I listen to, if you wanna check that out!

Work today!

Yeah but not too excited. I'll be excited when I finally get paid on thursday! In other news, my great aunt Julia passed today, she was 76 I believe. Not too sad tho, I never really saw her much. In fact, last time I really saw her was when I was around 16 or 17 years old. She was such a mystery. She never married, nor had kids. I just feel bad for grandpa the most, he lost all his siblings now. He's the only one left. With this, I'll definitely be spending more time with my grandparents, especially my grandpa. Gonna invite my grandpa over for beer this friday.
